ABOUT THE KANTO REGION
Kanto is where it all began — the first region in the Pokemon series, featured in Pokemon Red, Blue, and Yellow (1996-1998). Based on the real Kanto region of Japan, it introduced 151 original Pokemon and set the foundation for every game that followed. The region spans from Pallet Town in the south to Viridian City and the Indigo Plateau in the north, with iconic locations like Mt. Moon, Lavender Town, and Cerulean Cave.
Kanto was revisited in FireRed & LeafGreen (2004) with expanded post-game content and in Let's Go Pikachu & Eevee (2018) with GO-style catching mechanics for the Nintendo Switch.

KANTO POKEMON FAQ
How many Pokemon are in Kanto?
Kanto has the original 151 Pokemon (#1-151), from Bulbasaur to Mew. The Kanto Pokedex was later expanded in FRLG to include all 386 Pokemon from Gens 1-3.
Which Kanto starter is the best?
Squirtle/Blastoise is easiest for playthroughs. Charizard is most popular with two Mega Evolutions (X: Fire/Dragon, Y: pure Fire). Venusaur is strongest competitively in modern formats thanks to Thick Fat reducing Ice/Fire weaknesses.
How do you get Mew?
Mew was event-exclusive, but a famous glitch allows catching it in Red/Blue using the Trainer-Fly method near Nugget Bridge. In modern games, Mew is available through Pokemon HOME from a Poke Ball Plus or special events.
What's the strongest Kanto Pokemon?
Mewtwo is the strongest with 680 BST. With Mega Evolution, Mega Mewtwo Y reaches 780 BST with 194 Special Attack — one of the highest of any Pokemon.
What games are set in Kanto?
Pokemon Red, Blue, Yellow (1996-1998), FireRed & LeafGreen (2004 GBA remakes), HeartGold/SoulSilver post-game, and Pokemon Let's Go Pikachu & Eevee (2018 Nintendo Switch remakes with GO mechanics).
What is the best Kanto team for a playthrough?
A balanced team might include Charizard (Fire), Lapras (Water/Ice), Raichu (Electric), Alakazam (Psychic), Nidoking (Poison/Ground), and Gengar (Ghost/Poison). This covers most Gym Leader weaknesses.
What is the hardest Gym in Kanto?
Sabrina (Psychic) and Giovanni (Ground) are considered the hardest, especially in Red/Blue where Ghost moves had no effect on Psychic types due to a bug. Erika and Koga are easier mid-game.
Are there any Kanto exclusive Pokemon?
Several Pokemon are version-exclusive: Ekans/Arbok (Red), Sandshrew/Sandslash (Blue), Oddish/Vileplume (Red), Bellsprout/Weepinbell (Blue), Growlithe/Arcanine (Red), and Vulpix/Ninetales (Blue).
What is the Kanto Safari Zone?
The Safari Zone is a special area near Fuchsia City where you can catch rare Pokemon like Tauros, Kangaskhan, Scyther (Red), Pinsir (Blue), Dratini, and Chansey using Safari Balls. Steps are limited per visit.
What does this Kanto Pokemon Generator do?
This free tool generates random Kanto Pokemon teams from the original 151 (#1-151). You can set team size, filter by type or rarity, exclude legendaries, and lock specific picks. Perfect for Nuzlocke planning, randomizer runs, and team building challenges.
Is the Kanto Pokedex the same in all games?
No — the original Red/Blue Pokedex had 151 Pokemon but some (like Mr. Mime, Jynx) needed to be traded. FireRed/LeafGreen expanded availability. Let's Go uses a modified Kanto Dex of 153 including Alolan forms of some Pokemon.
